Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1.  I've heard more than one person say that they chose not to find out the sex of their baby ahead of time because "there are so few real surprises in life."   What the FUCK are they talking about?  Now, I totally understand not wanting to find out whether it's a boy or a girl ahead of time.....but no SURPRISES in life?  Who ARE these people?  Because I gotta tell you I find life nothing but surprises. Surprise after surprise after fucking surprise.....some good, some bad but just the same.....surprise after surprise after surprise.....

2.  Had our beloved friends Boo and Doug over for dinner last night.  Of course not long after they got here the hospital called to confirm my mother's DNR status.  Oh how cheering....  Had a lovely time despite that though and my food wasn't half bad (slow roasted pork, sliced and then stir fried in fish sauce and sugar, stir fried cabbage, bok choy and surprisingly hot poblano peppers and some ginger-orange brown rice with almonds).

3.  It's sunny and cold and we have NO plans today other than visiting my mother in the hospital. Ernie and Owen are playing with the Wii.  Owen LOVES it and has set up teams of the whole family.  Every so often he'll pop his head out to tell me that I got a home run or something....  I just tell him I'm glad I could help and he giggles....

4.  I have a ton of leftover food in the refrigerator.....I probably don't need to cook for days but I'm kind of in the mood for it......

5.  Last night Owen was sitting in front of the fireplace watching the flames turn to embers.  Eventually he got a pillow and blanket and stretched out there.  He convinced his father to lie down with him and I watched the two of them in the glow of the fire and the Christmas tree, their arms wrapped around one another as Owen fell asleep.  I couldn't even bring myself to take a picture it was so beautiful....
