Random Notes from a Mildly Cranky Sandwich
1. I don't want to take our Christmas trees down....I was aiming for the 6th....but they are so dry they have begun hurling ornaments to the floor-----including one of my beloved Uncle Mistletoe ornaments damn it! First I was blaming it on the cats but eventually even I had to admit that the trees are just curling up and tossing things aside.
2. My mother called from the nursing home last night and I don't think I was very kind or sympathetic. Sometimes you have it and sometimes you don't. And right now....I just don't.
3. We attempted some of our New Year's Eve food yesterday since I was feeling a bit better. Homemade potato chips......YES! I've been wanting to do this since Jim Dennison brought some to the last party and I only scored one----off of somebody else's plate. His may have been better but ours were damn good.
Letting me loose with a mandoline to slice potatoes? Rather dangerous....
4. The eggrolls were less of a success although they tasted great. I looked at recipes and of course there are about a billion....finally concocted something of our own but I think my filling was too wet.... I used some seasoned ground pork with cabbage, carrots, garlic and ginger. Flavor was good though----Ernie devoured them which I took as a compliment. This will take a bit of working to perfect.
5. I can't think of anything to say that doesn't sound somewhat whiny so I shall just stop.
6. Oh, except for the fact that the other day when I got home from the hospital it was just getting dark and there were crows flying all around our yard and settling in our trees. They looked stunning against the dusky blue sky.....I tried to get a picture but failed and it was too cold to mess around. However in hindsight I rather like the blurry black and blue....
