Starting the Year....

Look at this beautiful pillow Margaretmade for me.  I cried when I opened the package but they weren't badtears.  'Courage, Hope, Peace, Strength'----perfect words for an imperfect but still joyful life.  Thank you Margaret----when I was upset yesterday afternoon and being cranky with case managers and doctors on the phone I just held it to me.  Such kindness!

In fact I had a long post written about my day yesterday but then it seemed like too much information even to ME.  HA!  Suffice to say I seem to have a cold again or still or whatever, my mother seems to be back to herself mentally but is now referring to herself as helpless and feels as though the hospital is kicking her out.  I told it wasn't a hospitality issue---that if it was a bed and breakfast, then YES they would be kicking her out----this just means she doesn't need acute care any longer which is a good thing.  I got her to giggle a little bit about it.  After a roller coaster of phone calls yesterday afternoon with options like sending her to a nursing home in Paxton thank you very much we finally got it settled that she will go back to Heartland today to finish out her IV antibiotics (which is through Monday).  Then it's anybody's guess.  Maybe she'll snap back to herself at the nursing home.  Hell, I don't know.

The boys (meaning all three of them) ended up going to see the Chipmunks movie by themselves while I dealt with hospital/nursing home issues.  Leo and Owen had a good time-----for Ernie and me it's a toss up.....

I continued to feel sort of wretched when I got home.  I had been planning to make appetizers and hang out with the guys for the evening but instead I ate a leftover chicken breast and went to bed at 8:00 p.m.  Pathetic I know but it is what I needed.  I will give you that before that we had a nice time all four of us snuggled on the couch (it's freezing in our little media room) watching a movie and giggling (mostly the three of them as Leo and Owen attacked their father making him laugh helplessly----they love it when they get him to do that and I love watching all of them).  The guys wanted to have a contest to see who could stay up the latest.  Obviously I forfeited.....later on Leo and Owen were neck and neck with Owen pulling slightly ahead but in the end Ernie won.

Today I've been curled up on the couch watching a marathon of Supernanny.  Ernie and the boys went to visit my mother and as per my sister Debbie's instructions I'm going to let Mom's homecare worker get her settled back into the nursing home this evening.  I think it's half a cold and half me just feeling worn out.  I think I'm going to stay on the couch for much of the day.....other than getting up to make homemade egg rolls.  Whaddya think?

Happy New Year all.  I look forward to sharing the joys in 2010 with you.  Thank you all for reading and laughing and crying with me.  I'll make an egg roll for you.
