Random Notes from a Furlough Day

1.  Mmmmm.  I slept late and got up when Leo popped into the room to tell me there were fresh biscuits downstairs.  Reportedly he made them, all Ernie did was supervise.  So I'm sitting here enjoying my biscuits (made into little cheese and bacon sandwiches so help me God), drinking my coffeemilk and perusing my laptop.  Leo is on the couch reading a book and listening to Pendulum on his mp3 player.  I used to call is it his lPod but it irritates him so I begrudgingly stopped.  Too bad as calling them the lPod and the oPod amused me. Ha!  Small pleasures, huh?  Owen is taking a break from watching A Hard Days Night with his father, wandering the house wearing a Vertebrats shirt and singing Can't Buy Me Love.

2.  I have WAY too much planned for today.  No way will I get it all done.  Time to pick and choose....time to pick and choose.

3.  A few minutes ago Hattie was scratching at a chair as she is wont to do damn her.  Leo and I began yelling at her----as WE are wont to do and then Leo yelled, "HATTIE....JESUS" and she stopped.  Leo sat up and looked at me in amazement and said, "that was really weird....all I had to say was Jesus."  I wanted to reprimand him for saying Jesus but I was too close to giggling.  Next time..next time....and yet.....she DID stop....

4.  I have a soft spot for Mark Rubel anyway but of course I found this quote of his in a recent interview particularly charming.

Recently I got to be the guest bassist for the Vertebrats, which was aspecial thrill because they're just about my favorite group I've everworked with. Playing with them was probably the way most musicians wouldfeel about getting to play with the Rolling Stones.

Nice picture with the interview as well....you gotta love a man who knows the power of white shirt and black jacket.

5.  Ernie's reading highlights of letters to the editor to me.  God they amuse him...now he's explaining some of his favorite ones (particularly the one about uneven pepperoni placement on a pizza) to the boys.  I'm not sure they're interested but they're going along with it.  My sweet boys.

6.  I highly recommend buying a little pot of hyacinths and putting it in the room where you sit the most.  Schnuck's has two sizes----$3.99 and $8.99.  They smell so wonderfully sweet and springlike.  Really....go get some.

7.  I love Rose Maddox......
