Apartment Therapy Spring Cure and Will Kimbrough
I got inspired by another local blog to do the Apartment Therapy Spring Eight Step Home Cure. Why I think I can manage this I don't know but it's good for me to have something to be obsessed about. I ordered the $10 books that goes along with it but read some of the first chapter off of Amazon. It talks about the fact that there are two general types of people and the different ways they think about their homes. Here's what it says about warm people:
These are the ones who worry about clutter and organizing and who tend to obsess much more about their homes. They are often gregarious, friendly and generous. Warm people are good hosts but are bad with cleaning and clutter. They are challenged by excessiveness and attachment to people and things.
How much more clearly could it describe me? I don't know that I'm gregarious or a good host but other than that it's definitely me....I don't think I've ever seen the word excessiveness (is it a word?) but it certainly suits me!
So the assignment for the week:
1. Make a complete list of repairs and solutions (ha! well we live in an old house, within reason anyway)
2. Vacuum and mop the floors.
3. Remove one item from your home.
4. Buy fresh flowers.
5. Sit for ten minutes in a part of your house you never sit in.
6. Look into earth friendly cleaning products.
The goal for this week is to think about what you want to accomplish in your home, to pull together clippings or images of rooms/spaces etc. that you like. So far I've dabbled online and found some images, now I want to show them to Ernie. I actually already had bought fresh flowers. I don't buy flowers often but I am a total sucker for hyacinths----particularly white ones. They are so wonderfully fragrant....I just adore them. So that's my new adventure. In some ways it seems stupid to attempt any kind of home project but I feel so overwhelmed by the idea of moving yet more things into our house---from my mother's---that it seems like it might help me sort things out in my mind---if not my house--at least in my mind!
And here....as a little treat is Will Kimbrough's Lick of the Day. Why do I enjoy watching these so much when I don't play guitar? I don't know but they make me happy. I imagine his new cd will as well once I get it.....
and at his cd release party....
