Song Sung Blue: Lightning and Thunder, Eddie Vedder and Life...

I can't think of anything more original to say than, "is it really Monday again?"  Oh well.  A delightful weekend was had by all so I can't complain.  Well, actually I guess the boys might complain but it's their own damn fault that all video games have been packed away so I will ignore any of their complaints 'cause man do I have some of my own.

Anyway....we went to see Song Sung Blue (with our friend Susan) at Ebertfest yesterday, the documentary about Lightning and Thunder.  It was much more moving and somewhat more painful than I had expected.  Of course Ernie and I had seen them several times back in their heyday---including a strange visit with Jim Mayhercy (Ernie's boss at the time who owned Second Hand Tunes) to their dressing room at the Metro the night they opened for Urge Overkill.  But of course that was before Thunder lost her leg and times--and life--hit them hard. The movie so clearly illustrated the way a catastrophic accident or illness can make your life veer off the path you think you are following.  Because all of us, even if we know better, we THINK we can see the path our life will take.  But of course we can't.  And sometimes it's hard to be graceful when you can't see the new path.  Lightning and Thunder were true to themselves though and loved each other deeply.

After the film, Thunder came out and did a couple of Patsy Cline songs as well as Dancing Queen by Abba.  I think the standing ovation made her happy and I think that fact made the audience happy.

Very moving film, very bittersweet.

Oh, and I've never particularly been an Eddie Vedder fan but this movie turned me right around.  He gets HIGH respect marks from me.
