Owen Meets Stonehenge

Remember Spinal Tap?  Of course you do.  Remember the scene where they're singing Stonehenge and a huge model of Stonehenge is supposed to drop down but their manager got the size wrong and it's a miniature version and....  Well, if you haven't seen it---or even if you have----watch this clip:

I think I've mentioned before that when Ernie and I saw Spinal Tap one hot summer afternoon at the old Co-Ed Theater in campustown---the only other people in the theater were the roadies for the band Accept....and they didn't laugh once.  Not even once.

Side note:  God I miss hair metal.  Sigh.

Anyway.

A couple of weeks ago I woke up feeling rather bleary and when I got downstairs Owen assaulted me, begging to order a gun he found on eBay.  He begged and begged, assuring me he'd saved up enough money from his allowance.  I tried saying 'later, let me wake up' but it soon became obvious to me that it was one of those times as a parent when you're just going to cave....  Later I told my friend Linda about it when we were discussing the ongoing 'do we let our kids play with guns' issue.  As I told her, "God help me but I ordered a gun with a bayonet off of eBay before breakfast today." She's been waging the 'my children aren't going to play with guns'  battle much better than I have----except when my kids corrupt hers.  Whoops.

So I ordered the gun, got Owen off to school and I ate breakfast.  Later I received the confirmation and it said it was coming from Hong Kong and would take over a month.  Hmmm.  So we've been waiting and waiting and WAITING for it.  The other day we bought a new patio umbrella since ours had gone sailing in the wind and gotten broken last year and when Owen came home from school and saw it wrapped up on the porch he starting yelling, "MY GUN, MY GUN."  So you get an idea of the scale he was thinking, right?

Yesterday I came home from work and he just wordlessly held the gun up in front of him.  I sort of gulped and said, "oh honey, it's not as big as I thought it would be."
