Record Stores and Jason Ringenberg....

I think I've reminisced before about the time WAY back in ummm....1983 or so....that my friend Eileen and I were working the evening shift at Record Service (RIP).  Jason and the Scorchers were playing that night down the street at Mabels (RIP).  As we leaned on the counter, possibly drinking a beer that Eileen would sometimes convince Phil to go buy us from Murphy's before he left for the day (thank you Phil!) in walked the guys from the Scorchers.  Now....I gotta tell you I had just never SEEN anybody like that.  Think about how tall Jason is (how tall IS Jason?) and the cowboy boots and the clothes and, and....and then Jason walked up to the counter and said to Eileen something along the lines of, "Hello, my name is Jason from Jason and the Scorchers and I wondered whether you would mind taking our record on consignment?"  She nodded yes and we tried to look cool as she wrote up the consignment form for the Fervor EP on Praxis.....and onto the shelf went the EPs.

Never imagined that 27 (gulp) years later Ernie and I would be married with a couple of kids, living in Champaign no less, and Jason would be coming to play a house concert at our slightly ramshackle house....

Amazing....

Here's a clip of Jason talking a bit about the old days of record stores....
