Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1.  Yesterday Ernie took the guys to the library.  When they returned I was already home and they exploded in the front door with their arms full of books, yelling about how many they had gotten and what series they were, etc.  It made me so happy.

Later we stopped by Don Gerard's meet and greet at Boltini (Hey Mary, hey Angie!) before heading back home.  I tossed some chicken in the oven and headed to the media room to watch American Idol.  I can't help myself....Steven Tyler amuses me.  Owen, who has an uncanny ability to know which one of his parents is the current softest touch, asked Ernie if he could build a fire in the fireplace so he could sit and read by the fire.  That boy has such a romantic soul.  Leo, in a fit of excitement, had already retired to bed with a stack of books to read, so Owen convinced Ernie to stay there with him.  Later I heard them playing guitar and then Owen burst into the room to get some paper to write down the song he and Ernie were writing.

My sweet peas.

2.  You MUST listen to this.  I know, I know, I post videos and a lot of time people don't watch them but really....this one is amazing.  Fabulous sound on it....and well....it's Fats and Kristi Rose....  When Ernie watched it he got that little smirk that means he's really happy....

Kristi Rose & Fats Kaplin at Ida Red from Ida Red on Vimeo.

 3.  My beloved David Olney had a heart attack last week.  He recounts the story in his own inimitable style.  Please, please, PLEASE stay healthy David....we need you....  Then a version of Way I Am with guest vocals by Miller the dog.

4.  Now, proceeding with the mundane....I'm having a terribly hard time picking out paint for my bedroom.  Got a couple of samples and had Ernie paint some pieces of cardboard that I could stick around the room and they came out looking way too pastel.  I should have Owen pick it....he did such a good job with his room.  I never would have picked that color and it's gorgeous. I need something that will work with woodwork that is dark but with a red tone.....something restful.....what do you suggest?

5.  I think I'm dull this morning.  Perhaps I'll go look at a seed catalogue.  Hey, does anyone around here grow blueberries?  And if so, have you had any luck????

6.  I guess it's a sign of age....I've sent more flowers for funerals in the last year than in all the years previous combined.  Sympathies to our beloved friends Pat and Diane on the loss of his mother.   I still miss my mother so much.  I still file things away in my mind to tell her before suddenly remembering that she's not here.  It's hard to believe that it's been almost a year since she died...and almost TWO since Judi died.  A friend was asking me about Ernie's health the other day and I gave my standard spiel, which is 'well, the wretched stuff metastisized into his bones but he had radiation and now has monthly infusions to inhibit further bone growth, daily Casodex and quarterly hormone shots and that all seems to be keeping things in check so he's doing great"  And as I was saying that I was trying to remember how long it had been since all that shit happened and I realized that it was right after Judi died and that it has been almost two YEARS.  Two years.  That's been stuck in my head ever since. It feels like yesterday in some ways and yet it also seems so ordinary now.  Time is a very strange thing.  And that's my last rambling thought for the morning.  Geesh.
