Fried Chicken and Broken Jars of Capers

The perfect ending to a lovely weekend----went to the house of our dear friends,Val and Bob, for a homemade fried chicken dinner.  I KNOW.  Our friends Boo and Doug and their daughter Laura were there and it just felt like being with family.  I told Leo that he could choose whether to go or not, knowing that he would choose not to go.  I kind of felt like letting the boys just hang out at home so I just could totally relax and not have to think about them.  I figured Owen would follow suit with whatever Leo chose.  Nope,  Owen definitely wanted to go so off we trundled with one boy.  I always forget how different it is with just one of them though so actually it ended up being nice for everybody.  In fact as we left and walked to our car Owen was overcome with joy and shouted, "That...was....FUN!"  Then on the way home he chatted and chatted about what a wonderful cook Val is.  I wholeheartedly agree but he did overdo it a BIT.  "No offense Mom, I mean no offense at all, but she is a REALLY good cook.  I mean, not that you couldn't be as good as she is Mom, I mean no offense, but you'd have to work really hard."  I just laughingly agreed because I felt so good and the air felt soft and perfect rushing in the car window.

It's going to be hard to top this weekend.....and Monday started out with yelling children and a broken jar of capers on the kitchen floor.  Back to reality...but that's o.k. too....

I have no pictures of the fried chicken so I'll leave you with one of Phil Lee and Tom Mason.  Oh, and click over here for an interview with Phil....
