Savoring

a post from yesterday afternoon:

I'm sitting in the quiet of the living room listening to Ernie breathing as he dozes in the chair next to me....his crossword puzzle dropped on his lap and Hattie curled up next to him.   Ernie always does the lion's share of the work getting ready for these house concerts and never manages to sleep late no matter what time he goes to bed.  It's unbelievably rare for him to nap at all so this is nice to see.  His face always looks so much younger when he sleeps.

We were all up late (at least for our little family).  Leo and his friend Travis bunked down on the living room floor wrapped in blankets and Owen crawled in with me.  As Owen and I laid there waiting for Ernie to come up and get into bed, he recounted his favorite songs of the evening (Les Debris, Ils Sont Blancs and Daddy's Jail) and proceeded to sleepily explain the storyline of Daddy's Jail.  That boy never ceases to amaze me.   He and Ernie dropped off to sleep right away but as tired as I was I found myself too wound up to give in to sleep.  It felt good though and I eventually drifted off.

Owen and I got up later than anyone else and found that Ernie already had cinnamon rolls baking for the three boys and most of the dishes done.  Ernie and I retired to porch with our coffee and coffeemilk and luxuriated in the sunshine.  Soon enough Phil Lee and Tom Mason showed up to collect their stuff.  Lovely, lovely guys.  They had kind words to say about our friends which made us happy as well.

A lazy lunch at Fries and Peanuts, some wondering around the yard admiring the flowers and new growth.  I couldn't even bring myself to play any music until just a bit ago----it's as though I didn't want to wash anything away.  You know how sometimes you have a bit of something that tastes SO good that you don't want to take a bite of something else and lose it?  That's how I felt.

I  didn't take any video at all so if anyone has any to share please let me know.
