Random Notes Just Because
1. Lord but my friends help me. Last night we had dinner with our friends Ann and Bob and their daughter. They make me feel more myself---seeing them is like one big sigh of relief. Lovely. I had a grilled cheese in honor of my mother per Owen's suggestion.
2. Ann and I both had babies within a few weeks of each other so Owen and Sophie (and Leo) have really grown up together. But now...every time we get together I see more differences. When they have a family movie night they watch movies about horses. We watch Star Wars or Indiana Jones. Sophie was drawing a panda. The boys were drawing Batman and some Motor Storm course. And the kids are starting to get a little shy with each other sometimes. As I said to Ann though---it's going to get worse before it gets better.
3. I bet Sophie always puts the toilet seat down.
4. Yesterday we got the most beautiful gift in the mail from our friend Van. Look at this gorgeous little Japanese hoe.....and he signs his notes and emails 'your pal forever, Van.' And it almost makes me cry. I have this theory that things balance out in life. Judi and I used to argue about that. Maybe it's just that after having hard times you appreciate the good things in life so much more? Maybe that's what it is. Much love and many thanks to you Van.
5. I get to have lunch with my husband today! Woo-hooooo! And we're going to try Family Movie Night all over again tonight. The boys are giving us strict instructions and I believe Owen wants final approval on the pizza order so I don't fuck it up again. OOPS...swear jar!
6. The Jimmie Dale Gilmore album is WONDERFUL. Ernie bought it yesterday----kudos to Jeff and Exile on Main Street for having it!
7. My beloved Tommy Womack... I can't wait to have him at our house on Friday, September 16, 2011. Put it on your calendars now people! Oh, and David Olney and Sergio Webb on Friday, August 19 too! The poor men....last time we had them it was February. February and August---not exactly the choicest months for central Illinois.... Anyway---here are two clips of Tommy Womack at Folk Alliance this year. Take the time to watch them....it will be 20 minutes of your life well spent!
8. I lost a friend yesterday. Cancer. Of course we knew it was coming but it still cuts. A little too deep to write about it right now. And I'm worried about two other friends that have cancer. Fucking cancer.
9. Parts of our yard are an absolute weedy mess but things are growing and we're getting our seeds and plants in so it feels good. I'm going to have to move this beautiful hosta. We've lost the shade it was used to and it's already looking fried on the edges just from the past few days....
10. Ernie adores the old fashioned spirea bushes. We had a huge one at the house we used to rent and I would cut big bouquets of them. When we moved into this house I bought Ernie one but it's never done well because it's been in too much shade. He transplanted it this year to a sunnier spot so hopefully I won't have to look longingly at the neighbor's spirea.
