Friendship and Thunder, Eric Brace and Peter Cooper

Ernie and I were both kind tired yesterday.  Perhaps it was something to do with a certain 9 year old who had climbed into bed with us the night before...hmmm.....I don't know.  For whatever reason, it was just one of those days where you can't shake the bleary off.  I got home from work and watched the guys ride bikes and then Owen and Ernie threw some ribs on the grill and as we sniffed longingly at the smoke Ernie and I sat and watched Eric Brace and Peter Cooper's show on Stageit.com.

The sounded glorious as always.  They voices truly do become a third voice when they blend together.  They were sitting in a house in Santa Fe--in front of a cupboard with gorgeous old blue paint.  As the show went on it got darker and you couldn't see the blue but man it was stunning.  At one point there were loud rumbles of thunder and I was jealous of that as well.  One of the things that makes these sessions so pleasurable (and they're not recorded so you have to enjoy them in the moment) is the way their friendship just glows out of them.  It's almost like another voice as well.  Now, it's not WHY I like their music, but I do love seeing it.  There's a level of laughing understanding that just seeps through.  That's something you only have with close friends.

In the last few years I've made some dear friends but I've lost some as well.  So watching that interplay always tugs at me a bit.  When we saw the Flatlanders this year, last year, whenever that was, I liked watching them watch each other----if that makes any sense.  Watch them talking to each other in the beginning of this clip:

I kinda like that idea....of the friendship being another voice on the stage.  Huh.
