Blaze Foley, Gurf Morlix, the Jans Project, Naomi Jakobsson and Toys for Troops...whew!
Lots of good things coming up this weekend....and God knows it's never too early to start thinking about the weekend. These are my HIGHLY recommended events to put on your calendar!
We'll start off the weekend with a couple of shows....at least that's the plan...but I HAVE to go see the Jans Projects and I'd like to see Blaze Foley movie/Gurf Morlix performance at the Highdive.
I think we can do both...start out at the Highdive and then move over to the Cowboy Monkey. We're VERY excited to see the Jans Project, which is made up of some very beloved friends.
Then on Sunday there are two important events...and luckily they just overlap a bit so you can do them both!
Representative Naomi Jakobsson's Fall Festival Fundraiser
Farm Lake, Urbana (2502 Cunningham Avenue)
Sunday, October 23, 2011 3:00-6:00 pm
The event will be held at a hidden gem, Farm Lake, located in Urbana right off of I-74. The location features 2 barns, 3 ponds, peacocks roaming and swans swimming......literally! The event will feature the music of the Duke of Uke and His Novelty Orchestra, hayrides, a bonfire, grilled foods and a variety of beverages. Suggested donation for an individual is $30 and $50 for a family. Checks should be made out to Jakobsson for State Representative and mailed to PO Box 273, Champaign, IL, 61824 or brought to the event...but please give her office a heads up that you are coming (217-373-5000) if you don't pay ahead.
I'm very excited about this---first because I want to support Naomi and I love the Duke of Uke, but secondly because I've heard wonderful things about Farm Lake and I can't wait to see it. Here are some pictures from another event held out there.
Then, when you're done there....you can head over to the Esquire for the inimitable Lori Stewart's Toys for Troops fundraiser. She, as always, has done an amazing job pulling together the whole thing. If you're not familiar with Toys for Troops you should take a look at their web page. Lori has a son in Iraq and began sending him Beanie Babies to give to local children. The whole project took off, thanks to Lori's passion and enthusiasm and now, several years later, is still going strong. They are now a non-profit and also send care packages to soldiers. You can download the flier for more info but here's the basics:
Toys for Troops Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser
Esquire Lounge, 106 Walnut, Champaign
Sunday, October 23, 2011 4:30 - 9:00 pm
There will be free spaghetti, music raffle tickets (she's come up with a ton of stuff for prizes) and 50/50 drawing. I don't even know what a 50/50 drawing IS but it must be good, right?
Then I will go home and collapse and say my thank yous that I have such lovely friends. These are some really great events so please share this with others you think might be interested....
