Snow Days and Cancer and Cheetos

My snow day was heavenly even though it seemed to melt away as fast as the snow.  I gotta say we weren't in the mood for the Cancer Center though....I was kinda hoping they'd stay closed all day. Our doctor is delightful though and Ernie's test results were good (yay!). Still...it is the Cancer Center. We sat in the waiting room and there was a couple sitting near us that seemed as though they had just gotten bad news. A nurse sat with them, leaning toward them, holding a clipboard and speaking quietly, telling them to go downstairs for bloodwork and then to come back to the waiting room so they could meet to discuss what they would do next. In the other corner sat a man in a wheelchair with half chemo'd tufts of hair on his head and a hospital blanket over him. When he was ready to leave he gave a card to the nurse to call for his ride.

Does that all sadden me? I don't know honestly. It feels close and yet so distant. In some ways it just points out how incredibly fortunate we are. Ernie's test results were good and they have been ever since they did the radiation post metastization. It was terrifying when the damn stuff spread and and yet here we are....could it really be three years later? So I guess I can't complain when I go there as it makes me appreciate our life and where we are in it.

When we got there we parked at the top of the parking garage as always. I wrapped my coat around me and headed over to the elevator. I turned my head to look back at Ernie as he was slapping ice off the windshield wipers and I had the funniest feeling. I felt like I was 18 years old and turning to look at the shaggy blonde record store guy with American Legion jacket and the pink shirt. I felt exactly the same way for just a moment. Not sure what did it.

We got out of there pretty quickly and and did our traditional post infusion drink at Fries and Peanuts. Talked to people we love and headed home to our sweet peas. There was a brief battle over computer turf but I did my best to ignore it.

Dinner was my latest favorite way to cook chicken.....spatchcocked with lots of salt and pepper....40 minutes at 450 degrees. We had it with red chile rice and leftover guacomole.

In other news:

As tempting as the Korean steak flavored Cheetos were....not so good...
