Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1. It's hard to believe that the cherry trees were already fading from bloom a year ago today. Despite the cold though you can feel that spring is coming. Why is that? I don't know. Perhaps it's just the daffodils and peonies and sedum sticking their little heads through the ground. Maybe it's because Ernie started cutting the ornamental grasses down. Maybe it's because our beloved farmer Greg is beginning to make guesses when he'll have beautiful local asparagus for us.... As much as I like winter I am ready for things to grow.

2. Sometimes the simplest cooking is the best. Fresh green garlic from Greg and some grocery store asparagus last night. Just a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper. Lovely.

3. A week from tomorrow!!! Time to pay up folks and start convincing your friends to come with you! I need to contact Team Tamale and figure out what I need to do to get ready.

4. I wasn't absolutely enthralled with our turnips. I need to play around some more but in the mean time I let them go...sitting on the counter too long. Their leaves started growing so I threw them in a pot by the sink so I can water them whenever I remember and look what I have? My own little turnip greens garden!!
