Reporting In.
O.k......yes, if it had been nice weather my yard would look a lot better....but I kinda liked having a dreary weekend. We were pretty lazy. On Saturday we hung around the house before eventually running a bunch of errands and going out for a drink. We returned home to experiment with a couple of recipes. Sunday, we had a particularly good batch of Ernie's biscuits and then Steve came over to work on our jukebox. It was delightful having him there....and progress was made on the jukebox...more mysteries to solve but some steps made. Then Owen and I made rice crispie treats because he had requested it. He and I are the only ones that like them but really, there's nothing better than a fresh rice crispie treat.
After that he and Ernie made a spice rub and got the pork shoulder all ready for the next day and we curled up and watched a couple of episodes of House of Cards. Later, Ernie and I headed over to Teri and Brian's house where we ate delicious food and had a couple of drinks. At one point Dave King played one of the loveliest songs I've ever heard. Beautiful. We headed home to find some kind of computer filibuster in process. Poor Leo....he's really more restrained than I am. If I were him I would have just yanked Owen right off that stool. We installed Leo to his rightful place and then I sat and watched Ernie and Owen made each other laugh helplessly. At one point Owen leapt to his feat and burst into 'Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows,' complete with accompanying claps and dancing.
Sometimes I just have no words.
I had hoped Monday would be better weather but when I got up it was so dreary that I thought maybe we'd just stay home. However late morning it cleared up so I announced we were heading out to the cemetary. Unfortunately we missed the Memorial Day service we usually watch but it was nice just the same. Next time we go out I need to clean the stones and bring some flowers but it was nice just to be there. Eventually we tumbled back into the car. Owen kept saying, "what are we going to DO?" I suggested going to Allerton to see the peonies and from the back seat I heard Leo sigh and say, "Did you REALLY just suggest that?" Damn, I liked it when I could convince them that things like that were fun. Little jerks. Owen complained about being hungry and we had passed one place on the way that was open so I finally suggested that we go back there. Ernie swung the car around and we headed back into beautiful downtown Rantoul.
The Century Restaurant....or perhaps it's the Century Cafe....was our place of choice and I must say it was delightful. Classic 1970's interior and what was front and center on the menu? A Patty Melt! I ordered it Deluxe of course. Leo went with just fries, Ernie went with his favorite, a club sandwich and Owen went for, because he's Owen, the ribeye sandwich...or something like that. My Patty Melt was all I could have hoped for, Leo actually ate fries that weren't the Esquire's and Owen kept saying, "We have to come BACK here...."
I love hanging out with those boys.
It was a lovely Memorial Day.
