French Press, Superman and Tuna

I love seeing all my friends' pictures of their fathers on facebook but I can't bear to put my father's picture up on there or to even look at one today. I don't know why. I've been missing my folks a lot lately. Partly because I've been going through my old blog entries of those last years and partly because I keep thinking about how excited my parents would be about Leo going to Washington D.C. this week. And of course it brings Judi to mind because without the money she left to the boys for college/educational things we would never have been able to afford to pay for his trip. So, as always with life, it's bittersweet.

Today I just focus on Ernie for Father's Day. The boys and I trekked out to Art Mart yesterday and bought him a Le Creuset French Press for coffee and a bag of outrageously expensive coffee for his present. I was going to take Owen to GameStop to buy some game he had money for but he decided it would be embarrassing to go there with his mother so we had to come home so Ernie could take him.

Geesh.

My brother in law Dennis came over for dinner and we had a lovely time and then the boys had Ernie open his present early so he'd be able to start Father's Day off with his new coffee. He was delighted and the boys were delighted and it made me so happy.

I was wiped out, I don't sleep well after these cortison shots (news thus far, back still hurts, but pain in legs is much better which is huge....cross your fingers that it lasts). When our friend Teri called trying to entice us out to see the Curses at the Clark Bar I pleaded tiredness but Ernie headed over and came home hummingly happy.  We've meant to see the Curses for ages as everything I've heard has made us want to but you know....we're slow....so I was glad he saw them at long last and loved them as much as he did.

I got into bed and my back felt better for the first time so I laid there and read and listened to the rain. Owen came up and we talked and watched the rain out of the window and then we both drifted off until Ernie came up to boot Owen out.

This morning there was great coffee excitement. I joined Ernie and Owen in watching the old movie of The Courtship of Eddie's Father. The sets are hysterical....and the colors! 1963!

After that I made omelets for Ernie and me. I gotta say....I did good. Good eggs, good bacon, onions sauteed a bit, parsley from the garden and some monterey jack cheese. I even managed to roll mine up properly! Small pleasures.

Later, Ernie will escort Owen to the Superman movie. Leo and I will stay home and hang out and then I will fix Ernie a good dinner....we splurged on some great bluefin tuna from Cheese and Crackers. I'll let you know what I end up doing with it. Suggestions welcome though as I'm still deciding!

Happy Father's Day all.

And don't forget....this coming Friday:
