Good GOD.
What the hell is wrong with me?
I worked until about 3:00 yesterday and then Ernie and I headed over to the cancer center. All was good. We zipped over to Sola Gratia to pick up our vegetables and then headed home so we could get Owen fed and off to Manga class and get Leo ready for his trip to DC. I kept asking Leo questions, asking Ernie questions, fussing about this and fussing about that. I asked them if they wanted me to shut up and they said, "YES!" At least Leo smiled sweetly while he said it.
I finally realized that I'm a nervous wreck about sending my sweet baby off into the world without me.
We had to get up at about 2:30 or 3:00 this morning to get him to his appointed place of departure. He insisted he was going to stay up all night, the little idiot. I made him get off the computer and into bed but sure enough....he stayed up. I sleepily hugged him good bye and sniffed him. He even hugged Owen good bye. It was a momentous occasion.
So a little bit before lunch I called Ernie to tell him about some changed plans. Owen answered the phone and said, "Oh, hi Mom, how are you?" I told him I was fine, asked him how he was and then asked to talked to Ernie. There was dead silence. "You want to talk to Dad? What do you mean?" We went back and forth for a few minutes and finally I said, "OWEN...what is wrong with you?" And that sweet voice said, "This is LEO Mom."
Oops.
I forgot that we'd let him take Ernie's phone on his trip.
"OHHHH.....LEO!" I screeched.
At this point my colleague across our small office was laughing so hard that she was slapping the desk in hysterics.
I said, "oh, uh....how was the plane?" He said it was fine, I stuttered a few more minutes and told him I loved him. He told me he was at the Natural History Museum. I told him to have fun and hung up.
Geesh.
No wonder kids make fun of their parents.
