Back to Normal
I think I am officially better. Yesterday I stuck it out atwork all day. I was tired when Ernie picked me up but when he hopefully askedme if I wanted to stop and have a drink I couldn’t say no. The poor man hasbeen cooped up with a sick wife and two boys far too long. So we went to Fries and Peanuts andalthough we didn’t stay terribly long it did feel awfully good to see some dearfriends and be back in the world so to speak.
Owen and I seem to be locked in a battle. He wants to quitband because he decided it’s too much work and his father and I are saying nofreaking way. Then a teacher suggested he join AVID which is a program designedto “prepare students for college eligibility and success.” The info also statesthat it “levels the playing field for minority, low-income, and students in themiddle who may be the first in their families to attend college.” Well, none ofthe above, but whatever. It also would meet when band meets so he would indeedhave to quit band. The program does look like it has some things that would be very helpful for Owen but uh…I don’t know. I emailed the teacher andasked why she thought it would be a good fit for Owen and she said she didn’trealize that Owen was in band, that he shouldn’t quit band. Well, easier saidthan done now that he’s convinced that he should be in this program and it’svery important because it will help him get into college. I asked her if shecould follow up with him but she didn’t yesterday. We’ll see how mad Owen is atme when he gets home. He also conveniently forgot his trumpet at school. So I toldErnie he has to make sure Owen has his trumpet when he picks him up. Of courseErnie took that as a criticism of him. Geesh…I was criticizing OWEN. Somenights you just can’t win. Then somehow rice got burned and dinner was late andgood God I was glad to finally go to bed.
And in one final random note....the other evening Ernie and I were sitting in the living room and we could here the boys upstairs. Owen was at his desk doing math homework and he was yelling across to Leo asking him some questions about it. Leo got up and went over and I could hear them talking and I thought, "ohhhh....what a nice brotherly moment." Then Leo came half way downstairs, hung over the banister and said to us, "I DON'T know how you guys do it." God I love those boys.
