My Father Would Be Chortling

For some reason I just keep thinking of my father chortling with glee. My Dad had this certain laugh that can ONLY be described as a chortle for when he was truly, truly tickled by something. And although he adored both my boys equally he identified with Owen as the second son...and that fact that he is Owen Joseph, his middle name the same as my father's first name.

And right now I can't get my father's grinning face out of my mind.

Remember the other day, when I said that Owen had written a letter to the school principal? Owen called me at work this afternoon when he got home from school and howled, "My letter worked, my letter worked" into the phone. Evidently at lunch today the principal came and asked him if he was the one that had written the letter. He said he was and she said she'd thought about it and agreed with him. She then announced to the lunch room that the rules were changed and they could sit where they want...AND she credited Owen.

My sweet pea.

I'm SO proud of him for having the idea to write and doing it politely and I'm SO impressed with the principal for listening to his thoughts and giving him the credit for the change. What a tremendous gift an ego boost like that is. That was really kind.

I bet he's going to start writing letters left and right....

Man I love that boy.
