Sola Gratia Farms: Week Something or Other
I haven't written about our Sola Gratia shares since July. It's not that we haven't been getting them and enjoying them...it was somehow two weeks of vacation, then the week with Debbie in the hospital, the week getting back to work, having a post started and then getting sick which lasted a week and a half and another week to have any energy. It's like I totally lost the second half of the summer! I am back though.
I grew up with a New Englander for a mother and an upstate New Yorker for a father so suffice to say...we never ate okra. Ernie had it as a kid but wasn't crazy about it. I tried it once before, roasting it and really liked it. It's got that kind of grassy taste that asparagus has a bit of....
Personally I don't mind if it gets a bit well....slimy. I like cactus in dishes for that very reason. Ernie though, is not a big fan of that quality. So the last two weeks we have grilled our okra and it's been delightful. The first probably could have used a bit more time on the grill but still was great tossed with fresh lemon and some salt. Last night we grilled it and then cut it up and threw it in a sautee of corn cut off the cob, some Sola Gratia tomatoes and some garlic.....wonderful end of summer eating!
