The Jans Project Heals
They did it. They healed me.
The Jans Project sounded amazing last night....truly as good or better than I have ever heard them sound. I LOVED the addition of Toby Weiss with them. They all looked so beautiful in my living room!
And the friends.....my beloved Kenny Draznik, David Conroyd and Pat Dailey made the trek down from Chicago.....and Lisa PENELTON....whom I last saw in 1994! Geez. Weirdly she looks exactly the same...utterly beautiful. It touched my heart to see her. I loved introducing the boys to her.....she met Leo and said, "oh yeah, that one's yours." She just made the night even more special. Thank you, thank you, thank you all!
People brought incredible food and drink too----Chloe's cheese plate was a thing of beauty. God I love my friends....and I met some new people, or talked to people more that I'd only met briefly. It was glorious. AND it was Mark Barnett's birthday!
There's a quality to Nick Rudd's voice that just cuts right through me. I tried to explain it last night but I couldn't get the words out right, and I still can't. There are certain voices, that even beyond the emotion and quality of the music they are singing, just touch me on a deeper level. Ian Hunter is one of those that does that for me...and so does Nick. It's not as though I hear their voices and think that all is right with the world, it's more like I am buoyed by the fact that someone else feels the world as I do. How do I get that from a voice? I have no idea but I feel fortunate that there are artists out there that do that for me. I love that Nick Rudd.
And speaking of Ian Hunter.....could my beloved Steve Lindstrom have done a more wonderful version of I Wish I Was Your Mother? Brought me tears....the very best kind of tears.
Watching Jeff Evans play, seeing him smile....seeing Steve Scariano play bass in my living room. All really DID feel right with my world. Owen loved hearing Steve play bass. He told me this morning, "You know Mom, I love all the music we have, I love David Olney and Phil Lee and all, but really...my favorite was music like last night, you know, real rock Mom."
That's my boy.
Thanks all for the healing.
