Round 1 Goes to Owen

GTAV REPORT

Hello there! Imean… (Clears throat) Hello there Mr. Blackwelder, my name is Owen andthis is my REPORT On GTA 5. So first of all I know you thought there was a lotof Sexist things in it but there’s not much. There’s a difference between Sexist, and back stories. The only times there’s anything really rude against woman isa character in the game BUT! She has a bad background with drugs and more.(Also her boyfriend is a bad person too) But besides that,  there’s really nothing sexist. Thoughthere IS GTA ONLINE.

So, GTA ONLINEis- well, you probably know, so people do say stuff bad and mean but,Surprisingly enough. They don’t say anything about women, So that’s about it… Ihope this will do..  :D –Owen BL.

So just as I was drifting off to sleep Friday night Owen poked his head in the room and reminded me that his first Grand Theft Auto V essay was due and he'd written about sexism and wanted to show it to me. So I dragged myself downstairs, sleepily read it, told him it looked great and we'd discuss it in the morning. He was quite pleased with himself.

The next morning I talked to him about it a bit, and I gotta say, I know I'm biased but damn I like that child. He told me some of the people that play online were rude, that one guy kept calling women bitches. He said he thought to himself, "DUDE, they're WOMEN, they're not TOOLS" so he unfollowed that person.

I asked him how women were presented and he ernestly told me there were three main female characters in the game, that one was upper class, one was middle class, and one was poor but it was because she'd had a really difficult life. I asked if a woman could be the main character and he said, only if you play online. I asked him why women weren't presented as the main characters. I said I know that it's mostly guys that want to play this, but can you think about it in the larger sense and think about why women aren't offered those main roles. His eyes got huge, he put one hand over his heart and said, "MAN, I'm just a KID Mom, I really don't KNOW. I mean I guess you could ask the people that make the games, but I just don't know." He blinked at me wide-eyed a few times. I tried to talk a bit more but kind of trailed off and I told him I loved him...and that I'm proud of him.

I think he won Round 1.
