A Good Start
Ernie and I just got back from the Farmers' Market. We unloaded our bag and set it on the floor. Hattie is now snuggled up inside, sniffing away happily. That cat adores greens and we had collards and spinach and lettuce and sugar snap peas and asparagus in there. Weird little creature but I do love her.
Yesterday I just floated through the day. It wasn't that I was just proud of Leo....I was just so thrilled that HE was so happy and proud. There is nothing better in the world than that boy when he is happy and feels good about himself. It's totally a parenting high.
Owen and Ernie took little Rascal to the vet late yesterday. Reportedly, he seems to be in good health, is about six weeks old and is indeed a boy. They said we should try to keep him separate from the cats for another couple of weeks until he gets his feline leukemia shot. That's going to be easier said than done as he's started escaping from Owen's room. We'll at least keep their food and litterbox separate if we can. Rascal is feeling quite frisky and getting cuter and cuter if that is at all possible.
Afterwards Ernie and I sat and listened to music. Now that the turntable is back downstairs it's a whole new world. I forgot how well I knew that Fingerprintz album.

Eventually we figured we should eat dinner. The boys had eaten dinner earlier because we were being lazy. I had some cod in the refrigerator and some leftover ingredients from an Indian cooking workshop. We started by roasting cauliflower at 450 after tossing it with coriander seeds, cumin (ground although it was supposed to be whole), turmeric and curry powder, salt and pepper and olive oil. Then I took some leftover chopped red onion and grated carrots and sauteed in a bit of olive oil with some chopped garlic and eventually some leftover chickpeas. Once the vegetables were cooking I poured in a little leftover mint chutney....it was very thin. I think of chutney as thicker but this was more like a vinaigrette consistency and made of mint, cilantro, green chili, ginger and cumin. I added a few tablespoons of it to the mixture and let it cook down and then set the whole thing aside.
At that point Owen wanted to buy something online for his Xbox account and we thus descended into Xbox-security-update-hell. They wanted to update our security settings for which you needed a text from your phone. Except the phone number they had was our old landline. So I obediently clicked 'do not have this number anymore' only to be told I was on hold for 30 days. Good God. I almost had a meltdown. Owen held it together although he had to leave the room and close himself in the bathroom for awhile. Eventually we were able to do what we wanted although he can't change his password, etc. for 30 days and God knows what else. The whole thing took a year or two off my life.
I went back to making dinner and attempted to make tempura curry cod. Well. It was something of a disaster. As Ernie watched me trying to scrape them out of the pan with the metal spatula he just started laughing and said, "I love you babe." I GUESS those were words of support. I gotta say, in the end it was delicious but by the time we ate it was so god damned late that we weren't really hungry. Gotta try that more often! I did eat my failed cod because it tasted great even if it looked like hell.
Eventually Ernie started drooping. The man gets up at 5 am and we can't seem to stop him. We all headed upstairs and dragged Leo out of his room and Rascal out of Owen's room and sat on our bed and watched the kitten scamper and listen to his tiny, tiny little meows before we tumbled into bed. Ernie fell asleep immediately and I laid there listening to the Brains before I drifted off. It's my most recent fall asleep music....
A pretted god damned good start to the weekend....
