Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1. I think Rascal loved his toy frog just a little too hard....

2. I'm not sure if you can really tell in this picture but this cherry tomato plant is now a good 8 feet tall and still growing. We've just started harvesting...

4. It's been a rotten year for our Swiss chard. First batch of seeds we planted barely germinated. I thought maybe we'd planted the seed too deep (although I've never had problems before) so we planted another packet of seeds. Still barely anything. So I went and BOUGHT a couple of Swiss chard plants which for whatever reason has always seemed crazy to me. I added those, we gently encouraged the few seedlings that did come up. Today? I went outside and found that one of the ones that we had started from seed was already GOING to seed. I've never had Swiss chard go to seed. Weird, weird, weird chard year....

5. I wasn't planning on stopping by Fries and Peanuts, but at the last minute Teri lured me out. We happily met Brian and her, and then ran into our beloved Sue, Heather and Donna. There were a few times I laughed so hard that the sides of my head hurt. This only happens during extreme laughter. We grabbed some food to go for the guys (yes, I know) and drove home. I could smell freshly cut grass in the air.

6. As I read my beloved Steve Lindstrom's facebook posts about the new Tom Petty (have it but haven't listened to it yet) I realized that we had never watched the Peter Bogdanovich Tom Petty film. Well, I take that back, Ernie said he'd watched part of it, (probably one of those nights when I went to bed early and he assured he was going to stay up and watch something...and then drifted off partway through). We attempted to try to buy it via the XBOX, only to have to give up and drag Owen downstairs to help us. I know Owen, I know. I was disgusted when my parents parted ways with technology too. I can't begin to tell you how many times I wrote out instructions so they could watch a movie on the VCR.

7. We finally got it started and Owen went back upstairs, shaking his head in disbelief at our inabilities. We didn't watch the whole thing (it's four damn hours and I'd had a couple of glasses of wine) but DAMN it was fun. Listening, and watching Tom Petty talk, he reminded me of a delightful mix of Nick Rudd and Kieran Kane. Can't wait to finish it up this weekend. Thanks, as always, Steve!

8. Onward. A nice fat weekend with very little planned. Oh, I'm hopeing to go by Indie Go tonight to see Lisa Kesler's opening (and that of Beth Darling and Robert Champman)! And Angie Heaton is playing at the Friday night live thing downtown....lots to look forward to....even if I do end up spending it curled up in my front yard! I hope you enjoy your weekend as much as I plan to!
