From Owl Pellets to Red Beet Records

1. I was talking to Leo yesterday about school and he attempted to convince me that he wasn't good at certain things and so shouldn't be expected to have good grades. Those of you that know my child know he has a steel trap mind so basically he's full of shit. Anyway....according to him some of the problem is that in biology for instance they have to do LABS (the indignity) and work in groups. Leo is sweet and smart and quiet so teachers always put him in group with kids that....aren't. I get this from the teacher's point of view but it makes Leo crazy. He went on to explain to me:

"The other day we had to dissect OWL PELLETS! Do you know what that is? It's bones and things that the owl eats and regurgitates. We had dissect it and tape all the pieces to PAPER."  And then in a low growl he said, "It was disGUSTING."

God I love that boy. I gotta say though....the thought of him dissecting owl pellets made me giggle really hard. Not as hard as when he had to dance to Funkytown in P.E. but almost....

2. In other news, Google News continues to think of me kindly with its "for you" recommendations. This time it highlighted an article that was about the clash between St. Louis police and the football players' demonstration. Below the article it said, "Interested in The Clash? Yes? No?" This is evidently the same algorithm that chose the story about the Bay City Rollers and young boys being abused by a dj for me. Interesting. I can't wait to see what else Google wants me to know about!

3.  I remember when the boys were little I could get a set of new markers and a pad of paper and wrap it and they'd be excited. "NEW MARKERS!!" Sigh. Teenage presents can get freaking expensive....and they're small. I miss the days of piles of presents under the tree. Presents from Santa and us and Debbie and my folks and Judi. And now they'll just be a few. Don't get me wrong...we always have and will overdo it at Christmas (I was raised that way) and the boys will be MORE than fortunate....I just miss the thrill of a little kid Christmas...

4. Oh, and in the small pleasures that can make your day category....I figured out how to download videos off of facebook. Here are two that I had wanted....one of our beloved Rod Picott saying Happy Anniversary to us for last year's 25th....and the other a short clip of my beloved Ian Hunter (thanks Teri) at the November show....

5. And last but not least in this rambling post....Red Beet Records Sale! Red Beet is having a great sale through Friday. All their cds are $6.99 each. Lovely presents...delightful stocking stuffers. Every one of these cds (o.k....I don't actually have every one so I can't really say) is wonderful. A couple of Christmas albums....a couple of great compilations and great stuff by Sandwich Life beloved artists such as Eric Brace, Peter Cooper, and Kevin Gordon.... I myself am wanting the new Fayssoux McLean.... Go forth and purchase and tell them Cynthia sent you! All cds $6.99 now through Friday!
