Seeds of All Kinds

Yesterday was my first day of break, and what did I do? I got up at the same time so I could make our parent/teacher conferences. Oh well. I was a tad nervous about them this time but ended up happy and proud overall, albeit shaking my head. As always, Leo is doing well, and pulled himself up from a rougher first semester. I think the first semester of high school threw him off a bit but he's getting back to my sweet, steady, stoic Leo. I can't begin to tell you how many times in these conferences over the years that teachers comment that Leo laughs, well, not laughs, but gives that one sided smile of his, when the teachers makes a joke. They love him for it. My sweet, sweet pea.

We had an hour to kill before Owen's conference so we went downtown and had a coffee and iced green tea respectively. Our daily lives don't get us to coffee shops often anymore....it felt nice. Then we headed to Franklin with trepidation. It is only fitting that the teachers pretty much laughed and shook their heads through it. They talked about the way he draws people as tacos---and his assignment on photosynthesis in which he did a cartoon of a father plant talking to a little plant, saying things like, "Well son, you're going to start noticing some changes" and the little plant's voice cracks. We also talked about some ways to get him more on track with organization and oh, say, actually turning in homework. Lord I love that child. I could not possibly love him more.

As always, with these conferences, despite various ups and downs and things the boys might need to work on, I come away with the knowledge that my boys have good hearts and bright minds. They may take a few years off my life with some of their various endeavors or lack thereof...but they are my sweet peas and I am lucky.

And totally apart from the whole Central High School being central issue....I love its art deco details....just love them....

Today feels like Sunday so I didn't make it out to Prairie Fruits Farm to see the baby goats. Maybe next weekend! Thus far Ernie and I have sorted through the three packed drawers in the dresser by the front door. A huge bag of trash, a smaller bag of things to be shredded and actual SPACE in the drawers. I feel a tiny little glow of accomplishments...now if I can get it together to get my seeds  started well who knows what else is possible!!!

Happy weekend all!
