In Honor of Our Beloved Mel!
My friend Mel goes back to the early days of Record Service....before my tenure there. I didn't meet her until about 2007 though. She found me via this blog...probably because I wrote about the Vertebrats and she remembers having a crush on Roy...something like that. Then on the opening night of Ellnora, back when it was merely the Guitar Festival, I was sitting with friends Michael and Renee and Ernie saw Mel in the crowd...she said, "oh, I want to meet your wife..."
And that was that. She is simply one of my favorite people.
Now I hate it if she can't make a house concerts. She grows tomato plants for me, drinks wine with me and just has been an essential and wonderful part of our lives. As some of you know, she had some major surgery recently. She is doing great but it hits you hard when one you love faces these kinds of challenges.
I'm pleased to announce that there will be a blood drive in Mel's honor at Common Ground Food Co-op, where she works. The bloodmobile will be parked in front of the Co-op from11-3 tomorrow, Tuesday, June 16, 2015. You can schedule an appointment or walk-in. Any questions---email tmccarthy@bloodservices.org. The blood from this goes to local and regional hospitals. Keep it in the family folks....and come out to support our beloved Mel!
