Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1. Well, Central lost the check we turned in ($200 thank you very much) for Leo's Driver's Ed. We'd had no word when his summer lessons were scheduled so Ernie called today and they said they never got the check. Ernie had turned it in himself though so I went into our bank account and minutes later had sent Ernie a pdf of the cancelled check. Sometimes I just adore the internet (other times, not so much). Now we'll see if we can get it straightened out.

2. Owen starts his two week session at the Fab Lab today. I was reading the description of this week to him:

The Fab Lab specializes in introducing learners to a variety of forms of rapid prototyping and iterative design. A combination of many of our most popular activities, Camp Fab Lab is several days and includes different components depending on the age and experience of participants. All workshops include: Instruction with Inkscape, Silhouette Studio, 3D design programs and other software. A variety of concepts related to drafting and design, imagination, remixing, graphic design and problem-solving. Each participant will get to take home a variety of items they’ve created over the week, such as stickers, soldered badges, laser creations, 3D printed monsters, small electronics gizmos, plushy characters, embroidered patches and 3D scans of themselves!

When I got to the word 'stickers' Owen screamed "STICKERS?" I paused and said, "uh, yeah?" He leapt to his feet roaring, "STICKERS? WELL FUCK YEAHHHH...I LOOOOVE STICKERS!" and dropped back onto the chair. I stared at him uncertainly and then he and his father burst into laughter practically rolling around the in their seats...and they laughed....and laughed.

This is what I live with people.

Nonetheless, he is looking forward to it. I have my fingers crossed that he enjoys it. He has a maker's 3d kind of mind so we shall see.

Shaking my head.

3. We're also trying to get Leo ready for his trip. He needs to have workboots for the trip. I innocently said to Ernie, "well, we want to get him good ones, maybe you should go to Redwing." Then I looked at the prices, $250+, gulped and said, "uh, why don't you head to the shoe place on Prospect or something." When I think of what this whole trip will cost....I just PRAY he likes it. Every penny and more will be worth it if he loves it. Fingers crossed so damn hard....

 4. In other delightful news, the biopsy Ernie had to have done of his jaw (periodontist said he'd never seen anything like it....don't you just love comments like that?) came back negative for cancer thank you very much. We weren't TERRIBLY worried as we know the Zometa he's been on can do weird stuff to teeth and jaws but it was still a bit unnerving. His periodontist said he's seen teeth affected by Zometa before but not to the degree that Ernie's was. Whatever....as long as it's not cancer! So even though we weren't super worried....it still feels nice to have that confirmed. Whew.

5. Even in quiet times life never ceases to feel like a whirlwind. And speaking of that....despite the somewhat wet basement this morning....that rain and the spectacular lightning felt GOOD last night....
