Sunday Morning Coming Neither Up or Down, but Happy....

A full day yesterday. A lazy morning replete with a nap to recover from the busy week; and then I headed off to work and stayed there a few hours. Afterwards we went for a drink at Fries and Peanuts to decide what we wanted to do with our evening. We kinda wanted to go the Loose Cobra show with Bobby Bare Jr. (and Robbie Fulks) but Ernie's got a bit of a cold and wasn't feeling great. As we were sitting there I checked Facebook and found that our beloved Phil Lee was huddled in a Monticello, IL hotel sick as a dog. Ernie said I gave him the doe eyes, which meant "good GOD we've got to bring the man soup!" So Ernie gave him a call and Phil felt lousy enough to say yes. I wished I had something good and homemade but we stopped and got egg drop soup for him, Ernie's very favorite thing in the world when he's sick, and picked up a couple of things at Pekara and headed over to Monticello. Poor Phil wasn't quite himself but he still managed to be charming and witty. We left him with soup etc and told him to rest and drink liquids.

At that point I realized that if we headed over to Loose Cobra we would be on track to see the end of the Fights and then Bobby Bare Jr. So off we trundled. We got to see a million people we like (see what happens when you go out Cynthia?). I was sorry to have missed Rebecca Rego but it was good to hear the Fights, and Bobby Bare Jr? Well, he was magnificent. Really, really wonderful. And besides, he made Sue SO happy..... And I think FOUR trains went past right behind the stage while he was playing, which made ME so happy.

Robbie Fulks, as always, had great songs and playing (with Robbie Gjersoe and Missy Raines no less so couldn't be less than wonderful) but he kind of doesn't connect with me despite it all. Can't explain it. Greatly talented guy though. Bobby Bare Jr. filled my heart last night though so we watched maybe half of Robbie and then drove home watching the lightning get closer and closer....

Something about that tall pipe or smokestack or whatever heading into the sky, with the stage, and the tiki torches and the trains....and delightful white wine. Ha. Well, it was wonderful. Kudos to all involved.
