Muppets, Perspective, and Hornworms
Man, I tell you, my children are so lucky. I was sitting at work yesterday just steaming with anger over their interim grade reports. Steaming I tell you. I angrily texted and emailed them orders on what I wanted done by the time I got home and was stewing over it all.
Then a friend, a colleague whom I don't officially know all that well, but feel that I do, if that makes sense, told me what had been going on in his life. And WHOOSH....the sweet winds of perspective came flying through.
Perspective, perspective, perspective.
I did still go home and mmm talk to them though. Owen tried to convince his Dad that he should take me out for a drink because he thought it would be really nice for me. See? No lack of smarts in that one....wanted to get me 'relaxed' before we talked about grades. Thanks to life putting things into perspective we had a nice, calm talk with Leo. Then I told Owen I was talked out, that we'd talk about it tomorrow. He nodded cheerfully, and said, "But you know Mom, I think you're over reacting a bit to this...if you just knock one or two of my grades out and then average them, well I'm doing pretty good."
I just shook my head.
Lord I love those children.
After dinner, while Leo trained or TF2'd or whatever on his computer, Owen and Ernie and I watched The Muppets in Outer Space.
A good evening.
Oh, but on the way into the house when I got home I looked over at a pepper plant and it looked odd. I looked more closely and it had been devoured by something, jalapenos and all! I looked once again and there it was in all its glory. A HUGE hornworm just steadily munching away. He ate some of the hot peppers although he did leave the seeds. Wow....
O.k...now watch this. Turn it up loud if you can. I swear you'll feel better and more ready for the day...
