Sure Stirring Up Some Ghosts

I've had lots of things running through my head that I wanted to get down here but I've been kind of discombobulated this week. I've been busy at work and my heads been too full of thoughts and feelings of late to even let them spurt out. In actuality the week was fine and although I almost wimped out and didn't go to Opening Night of the Ellnora Guitar Festival at Krannert we did end up going and I was glad we did. I really liked Terakaft and Mia Dyson, neither of whom I'd been familiar with....always one of the best things about this festival for me.

I'd been most excited to see John Jorgenson and we had a perfect seat in the amphitheater outside but we left after a bit to listen to the end of the North Mississippi Allstars. It was a great night and as always I think KCPA is good at what they do. We are so fortunate to have them here. I'd hoped to slide out of work a bit early to see the Valerie June free show yesterday but as the morning went on I realized there wasn't a chance in hell so I told Ernie to go on without me. Even though I didn't get to see her I will always think she is wonderful though because she kindly let Lisa Kesler take a quick video of her sending Richard Hill get well wishes. Wonderful.

And speaking of Richard, he is home from the hospital. We were pretty worried about him. We need to watch out for those we love, and love him we do.

It was sobering last night when Ernie looked at the paper, then looked up at me and said, "Mel died a week ago. It feels so strange, there was an obituary in the paper, and now it's gone...it feels like there should be more." I knew just what he meant. Sometimes it feels so strange to know that life is continuing on oblivious to what is happening in  our own lives. I'll never forget the day we were driving to the hospital so that I could be induced with Leo (of course he wasn't born for several more days but that's another story...my children's personalities were apparent even in utero). I remember looking at people walking down the sidewalk and thinking to myself in amazement, "Look at them....they are walking around like it's an ordinary day."

I think it was a bit of that this week, still mourning Mel, worrying about Richard.....and a good friend is dealing with caring for her parents and the incredible stress that goes with that....and it all stirs up some ghosts for me, and the resultant guilt and sorrow and regret that comes with those ghosts. If Ernie were here in my mind, which I guess he is, he would now whisper, in Robbie Robertson's voice, "this is sure stirring up some ghosts for me." And he'd be right. He always is.

right around 3:30....
