Speeding By, Including RB Morris and Mel Farrell

The days are cycling by me so fast I feel like I'm a little hamster on a treadmill. There's good and bad to that of course. At home the evenings seem like five minutes. I suppose this is partly because it's getting dark so much earlier. My daily rhythms just haven't adjusted to that. I feel as though Christmas is just around the corner. I love Christmas...but NOOOO. I will try to shake it all off.

I seem to have lost any cooking mojo I once had too. I can't even tell you how often we have been ordering food or letting our child eat ramen. I MUST get hold of this. Tonight I've got a nice chicken in the refrigerator. Ernie bought it at the meat lab, as he often does, and was surprised to see this one came complete with head and feet. He showed it to Owen, thinking Owen might be freaked out by it. Owen just nodded his head and said, 'well, they're animals.' Then he took over cutting it up. Lord I love that boy. I was all ready to talk to him, saying that if you're going to eat meat, you have to recognize that you are indeed eating animals. He was way ahead of me.

The feet are good in stocks, aren't they??? Gotta look this up.

Oh, and don't FORGET. Our beloved RB Morris is this Saturday! Click on over to facebook to say you're going. Want a quote or two to lure you in? How about these?

'RB Morris is the greatest unknown songwriter in the country.'
~ Lucinda Williams

'RB is the reason I started writing poetry.' ~ Steve Earle

Yeah.

And some more info:

RB Morris is a singer-songwriter and poet from Knoxville, TN touring in support of his new 'Rich Mountain Bound' album and his published collection of 'The Mockingbird Poems'. He has enjoyed recent performances at the Country Music Hall of Fame and was featured at the annual Southern Festival of Books. In addition, RB has been performing nationally with John Prine, who recorded RB's song 'That's How Every Empire Falls' on the vinyl version of his Grammy-winning album 'Fair & Square' - and also on a four-song EP John Prine released under the same name. Marianne Faithfull has also recorded this song for her new 'Horses And High Heels' CD. RB released his own debut album 'Take That Ride' on Prine's Oh Boy! Records, and his follow-up 'Zeke And The Wheel' (Koch Records) was nominated for Americana Album of the Year by the American Association of Independent Merchandisers. He has also toured with Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle, and been on various Americana compilation albums.

Among recent shows in Europe he was a featured performer at the London Institute in Paris at the symposium honoring William Burroughs, and one of only a couple of musicians who were asked to contribute essays to the accompanying anthology honoring Burroughs. RB has been described as a 'cross between a rural Tom Waits and an urban Woody Guthrie'. He is a published poet and playwright and a renowned songwriter, recording artist, and performer. He was inducted into the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame in 2009. His most recent book of poetry was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

It will be a great show. He's bringing along a guitarist, Greg Horne, as well. I am so looking forward to this. For the potluck I'm going to do a big batch of Chinese Red Cooked Pork along with some rice and something green, and maybe some of my sesame noodles. Please bring something to share if you like. It's a good thing I have people to bring wonderful sweets. My weekend attempt to make a tarte tatin was an abject failure. I have made them successfully in the past, but this time I didn't like the recipe for the tart dough (it was slightly sweet and didn't set off the sweetness of the apples) and my apples were overcooked. Eh. Oh well.

On Sunday, from 1-4 will be the MELebration at Prairie Fruits Farm, celebrating our beloved Mel Farrell's life. A good, but full, weekend that, no doubt, will speed by.

Speeding by, I tell you. Speeding by.
