Musician Thanks...and Some Completely Random Notes from the Sandwich Life
1. Chris Kimball out at Cook's Illustrated, etc. Man, I always WANTED to like him but he just creeped me the heck out. And, although there was a period of time I subscribed and loved Cook's Illustrated, that's a window that's closed. Could they possibly suck the fun out of cooking any more than they do? Now, granted, I know it's my sense of 'fun' that makes some of my recipes not turn out...but STILL. Oh, and there was that whole potato salad controversy too!
2. In other food magazine news, Dana Cowin is out as editor of Food & Wine. Does that mean we can stop reading articles about her book in EVERY freaking issue? I know, I know....she wrote a cookbook about how she can't cook but all her friends the chefs can help her....so yeah, push it once or twice in your magazine...but EVERY freaking issue? Issue after issue after issue....
3. I must admit something shameful about this last weekend. The only time I left the house was when I went on a walk in the snow with Owen. Instead we cooked, puttered, had fires in the fireplace, binge watched Last Tango in Halifax (lord the baby they call Calamity looks like a baby Leo...or maybe a baby Hank, huh Mary?), re-planned my Thanksgiving menu about ten times, and basically ignored the outside world. Highly recommended.
4. One of the only shows I still regularly watch on network television is the Good Wife. Its storylines seem a bit adrift this year. The only bright spot is Jeffrey Dean Morgan, although I found him most appealing when he was on The Chew. Perhaps it was because cooking was involved....
5. I know my snow is going to melt, but it's been lovely having it here....
6. Onward to Thanksgiving!!! It's Monday...but it's a short week!
7. Last, but very much not least, please consider supporting Rebecca Rego and the Trainmen's Kickstarter. They're over halfway, which is great, but they need a push to get them to the finish line in a week. I think the world of Rebecca so throw in a bit of support if you can.... On my list of things I am exceedingly grateful for this Thanksgiving is all the musicians and artists who create....often doing so without a regular paycheck or things like sick leave or vacation days....because what they create makes my life, our lives, better.... So if I can throw a few dollars to support their work, I try to do so.... Crossing my fingers for their Kickstarter!
