Random Notes from the Sandwich Life
I've been too busy to post much. I write all sorts of interesting things in my head though. Oh well....here are a few random notes and pictures for the time being.
1. Owen decided to start moving boxes of records in from the garage. I guess we won't be eating at the dining room table for a bit. It does lead to interesting discoveries though. I mean, why WOULD one Hilly Michaels album be enough?
2. Sitting in a living room on a dreary night listening to the Long Ryders talk about their album Looking for Lewis and Clark. Ahhhh.
3. First fire of the season last night...and then a nice fall dish of braised chicken with olives, pickled lemons, potatoes, garlic and rosemary....
4. My parsley has withstood the frosts thus far...but will it make it to Thanksgiving? Some years it does, some years it doesn't. The sage and rosemary are wonderful right now.
5. Recent comments from the family:
"Well Mom, 62 is the new 13." (Owen, upon hearing my theory that he is bringing down his father's level of humor)
"Sounds like one of your dinners" (Ernie, upon hearing Mary Hosier's anti-sickness concoction of cayenne, horseradish, garlic and ginger in cider vinegar)
"Wow Dad, this is like Mom's cooking." (Leo, upon Ernie opening the oven to a cloud of smoke).
