Timing
Ernie and I often joke that everything in life is timing, and in many ways it's true. I've been thinking about that of late as I continue to feel, personally, the repercussions from this last election. I remember when 9/11 happened that it was of course traumatic, but I don't think it hit me as hard as it did others. I had an almost two year old and I was pregnant with Owen. In addition I had just started a new job which was very intense, and my elderly parents had moved down here and were started to need more care and attention. I was so turned inward that although I felt the reaction to it I was somewhat impervious. I remember that my sister Judi couldn't get past it and would call me and talk about what she'd read and at times I'd almost feel impatient.
The boys always ask me about my day and the other day when I yet again started saying that I felt discombobulated and out of sorts because of the election, Owen rolled his eyes a bit and said I had to get over it. I felt offended at first but the more I thought about it, the more I thought back to that time after 9/11 and my response to Judi. So yet again, I realize that the way in which things affect us depends so very much on where we are in our life, our own internal life. With the boys virtually almost grown, my eyes have returned to rest more heavily on the world, and I suppose that's why I feel so shaken by the shift in my perception of our society.
Timing.
Everything is timing.
And it's that same timing that will make this Tom Mason show, our Pirate Thanksgiving, more necessary and more joyous than it would have been had we a President Elect Clinton. We all need this, we all need music, friendship, food and joy. Hope to see many of you tonight. If you need info just message me.
Timing.
Can't wait to see you Tom.
